Wasted On You
- Morgan Wallen -
Key of D
6 - 4 - 1 - 5/5of6
This is a good example of the "minor" version of a 1-5-6-4, which is that same progression but starting on 6, so 6-4-1-5.
Also has a quick 5of6 right before the 6 chord, and it is being played as only the diminished triad (or just the 3-5-b7 of the chord).
Levitating
- Dua Lipa -
Key of D
6 - 3 - 2 - 6
I personally like to play that 3 as a spicy 3 (5 of 6) when I'm soloing over this song.
If you wanted to look at this from the "key of Bm", it would be:
1 - 5 - 4 - 1
New Rules
- Dua Lipa -
Key of C
6 - 6 - 6 - 5
4 - 4 - 4 - 5
I like to play that first 5 chord as a 5 of 4 (would be C7, or Csus). It's cool. I love this song.
Low
- Wage War -
Key of Ab (chorus)
Chorus (0:59)
4 - 5 - 6 - 6 x2
4 - 4 - 2 - 2
While the chorus is written around standard 6 chord minor (Fm), the main riff is F spicy. So you'll hear in the main riff a root, b2, b7, 4, maj 3rd in some order or another. This exact tactic (sound of the 3/spicy 3 for the mean/heavy/verse parts, but turn it into the sound of the 6 chord/normal minor for the sing-y/emotional parts/chorus) is extremely common.
Cake By the Ocean
- DNCE -
Key of G
6 - 3 - 2 - 4
Doesn't get simpler. Good for basic ear training as the opening riff is simple and very easy to hear, and there are blatant small chord voicings in the second verse (1:16)
