Part 1 - Origin, Structure, Hierarchy, Chords - We transition over to the other type of 3 chord, the Major version that I like to call the "Spicy" 3 chord. We go over where it comes from, the notes available, the note hierarchy, and some very common chords we can build from it.
Part 2 - Casual Progressions, Flamenco - How The Spicy 3 is used in more casual settings, as well as a very common sound that heavily features this chord, Spanish Classical or Flamenco. The guitarist at the end is Paco De Lucia.
Part 3A - Leads, Core Sounds, Pretend Chords - Playing leads over this Major (Spicy) 3 chord. We create the foundation of the sound and then slowly add in each color note, one at a time. We then finish with some great sounding Pretend chords that make all of this much easier.
Part 3B - Leads, As a 5 of 6 Transition Chord - Leads over the Spicy 3 as a transition chord to the 6, otherwise known as the "5 of 6" chord. We go over each note of the sound and how those notes will resolve or move to the final target chord, the 6.
Part 4A - Diminished 7 - There are a variety of sounds that live inside of the Spicy 3 that are very useful, and over time have become their own thing. I call these "Hidden Sounds" and today we go over one of the most popular, the legendary Diminished 7.
Part 4B - Diminished 7 Chords - We focus on chords by learning a few important shapes, and finding various starting locations for them.
Part 4C - Diminished 7 Leads - We continue working through the diminished 7 sound with leads, which are essentially arpeggios. We talk about the most common shapes used, how to locate starting spots, and some other interesting ways to play them.
Part 5A - Augmented - We begin another hidden sound that lives inside the Spicy 3, Augmented! Like diminished 7 this sound comes from the Spicy 3 being used as a 5 of 6, to enhance the resolution in some way. Also like diminished 7, this sound has some tricks up its sleeve!
Part 5B - Augmented Chords - Some very simple chord shapes. We also talk about some interesting ways this sound can be used, in more simple situations than you might think.
Part 5C - Augmented Leads - We wrap up the Augmented hidden sound with some lead ideas. Mostly based on arpeggios, they can be a nice "softer" alternative to diminished, and similarly as easy to play.
Part 6 - Minor 4 - A somewhat brief overview of this incredibly common sound, as a full blown dissection of it would take multiple videos. Very easy to implement in your playing and writing and will surely add some drama to your parts.
Part 7 - Song Examples - A bunch of songs that use the current sound we are discussing, the Spicy 3. You'll find three different categories in this video:
Part 1 = Blatant Spicy 3
Part 2 = Less Blatant Spicy 3
Part 3 = Hidden Sounds
Part 8 - Spicing Up Your Riffs - We take an older tune I made for the Normal 3 chord and "Spicify" some of the parts. We do this by going through each part and changing the 3rds from minor 3rds to Major 3rds, giving us that Spicy sound.
Part 9 - Making Other Chords Spicy - The most common way to make other chords "Spicy", by turning them into transition chords of course! We turn pretty much every chord into a "5 of" something and enhance the sound by not only making it major/dominant, we make it Spicy.
