Intro - A short description of what we will accomplish in this series
Ch. 1 - All Chords in a Key - Using the knowledge gained from The Fretboard Method, we discover the seven basic chords that exist in the key as well as some very simple moveable shapes we can use to play them.
Side A - Chords with Open Strings - Using the simple moveable shapes from previous video, I showcase some really great sounds you can achieve by simply adding in open strings.
Side B - Basic Chord Melodies - Creating melodies while you play chords, by using a very simply strategy of borrowing notes from nearby chords.
Side C - Two Note "Chords" - We break down the full chord into small two note shapes. An unbelievably common technique used in every genre.
Simple Moveable Chords - Using the same moveable shapes from Chapter 1, we move these shapes to other strings which will give us a ton of options.
Diagram Review - A review of the associated Diagram (chord root locations).
Side A - Writing Pop/Hip Hop Parts - I create a simple part using these chord shapes and arpeggios from The Fretboard Method
Side B - Writing Rock Parts - Same as the previous video, except a rock version.
Side C - Arpeggios in One Position - Considering arpeggios are just chords, we use the shapes from The Fretboard Method to play every chord in one place on the neck.
Side D - Improvising With Arpeggios - Continuing with the previous video, we discuss improvising with these same shapes.
Pentatonic of Major Chords - Continuing on our path of building every chord's note hierarchy, we discover the pentatonic of the 1, 4, and 5 (the major) chords of the key.
Side A - Left/Right/Center Exercise - A simple mechanical exercise to get comfortable switching between chords.
Side B - Switching Pentatonics in One Position - We go over the importance of forcing ourselves to stay in a single position and be able to find the root of each chord quickly.
Side C - Adding Notes to Chords - We take our normal 1-3-5 chord shapes (triads) and start adding the other notes from the Major Pentatonic. Cool sounds incoming!
Side D - Looking For Connections - In this lesson we look for shortcuts/connections between the chords so we can mentally move through them easier when we are improvising.
Side E - Using Your Ears to Guide You - We go over hearing these notes over the chords, and using our ears to guide us through them.
Pentatonic of Minor Chords - Continuing on our path of building every chord's note hierarchy, we discover the pentatonic of the 2, 3, and 6 (the minor) chords of the key.
Side A - Practicing Minor Pentatonic - Using the minor pentatonic over a 6-3-2-6 progression, we will go over some exercises and thought processes that will make it easier to play.
Side B - Using Your Ear, Adding Notes to Chords - Using the minor pentatonic over the 6-3-2-6 progression, we will go over how to hear connecting notes through the chords, as well as find some new interesting chord types by adding in the other pentatonic notes, the 4 and flat-7.
Side C - Writing with Minor Chords/Pentatonic - Using the 6, 3, and 2 chords, I come up with a rhythm part from scratch and show you my thought process.
Side D - Intro to the 7 Chord - We introduce the 7 chord, the only chord naturally occurring in a key that is not major or minor. This chord is Diminished, a chord with a 1, flat-3, and a FLAT-5.
Side E - Pentatonic of All Chords - We recap everything in regards to playing Pentatonic over every chord. We do this over a backing track that hits every chord in order.
Ear Training - Hearing Root Movements - As we start taking everything we have learned and apply it to music, we focus on the first step of hearing root movements of chord progressions. MANDATORY TOPIC
Side A - Finding Major and Minor Logically - The next step after being able to hear root movements of chord progressions is to figure out which chords are major or minor. Using our knowledge of the chords in a key and thinking logically, figuring this out will be much easier than you may think.
Side B - Finding the Key with Unique Chord Groups - We will go over a really quick and reliable way to figure out the key using our knowledge of chords in the key. We will do this by finding unique progressions that will point us in the right direction.
Side C - "Complex" Songs that are Actually Simple - We go over some songs that sound like they are complicated, but are actually very simple harmonically.
Side D - "Simple" Songs that are Actually Complex -
We go over songs that may sound simple, but are actually harmonically complex.
